Swim Year-Round In a Swim Spa

TidalFit exercise pools and swim spas

Swimming is one of the most popular sports and exercise activities in the United States. Why? There are so many health benefits:

• Swimming provides a low impact, aerobic work out for your whole body
• It increases your heart rate without stressing your body
• Swimming can build strength and endurance
• Different strokes add variety to your workout regime

Swim spas, or “exercise pools’, are not necessarily new, but they have recently grown in popularity. More and more people are seeing the advantages to a swim spa versus an in-ground pool or going to the local gym or YMCA.

Advantages to a Swim Spa:

• Swim year round
• Variety of exercises – swimming, walking, rowing bars, yoga…
• Swim jets on one side, Hot Tub seating on the other side
• Cost a fraction of what an in-ground pool costs
• Take up a smaller footprint in your backyard vs. an in-ground pool
• Easy to maintain and operate

What is a Swim Spa?

A Swim Spa allows you to swim or exercise continuously against a water current. You never “hit the wall” or have to turn around like in a regular pool. Swim Spas provide the best exercise, using the least amount of space in your home or yard.

Swim Spas allow you to do other exercises as well, such as walking against the current, strength and resistance, rowing, even water aerobics, yoga, or stretching.

And it’s important to note that the flow rate on the swim jets can be adjusted, weaker or stronger. We have Swim Spa customers that range from former Division I collegiate swimmers, to those who no longer are physically able to run or bicycle and require a light aquatic work out.

Swim Spas also act as a swimming pool in the sense that you can float, play, and relax in them. We have some customers who don’t use them much for exercise, vs. just hanging out, getting a tan, and watching the kids play!

Perhaps best of all…in most models, you actually have hot tub seating, on one end of the swim spa, while the swim jets are situated at the other end. So you’re truly getting the best of both worlds. This helps to create an environment where a person can exercise, then relax by just soaking in the warm water to let the hot tub jets soothe your muscles. Or skip the exercise and just use the hot tub seating!

How Big is a Swim Spa?

Swim Spas come in a few different sizes. The most common models are 12’ – 15’ in length and about 8’ in width. Some models allow a single temperature setting, while other models – known as “Dual Temp” models – allow you to set the swim side at one temperature and the spa side at a different temperature. Dual Temp models can be up to 21’ in length.

Swim Spas are self-contained – all the plumbing and equipment are internal. The only thing that is required is 220v electrical service into the unit (dual-temp models require two 220v breakers). They can be above ground, semi-in ground, have decks built around them,…lots of options to suit different design ideas.

Year Round? Really?

Yes really. A key advantage of a swim spa is that because the system is heated just like a hot tub, you are able to enjoy it year-round! It’s in your backyard, it doesn’t require a trip to the gym, it’s available 24/7/365! You can’t beat that convenience!

Not to mention that, when compared with traditional in-ground pools, they take up much less space, they require less maintenance, and are more affordable (by a long shot!).
